It has been an honor and a privilege to serve the residents of Jamaica, Londonderry, Stratton, Weston, and Winhall in the Vermont House. Serving in the Legislature is both exciting and rewarding, but the most enjoyable part of my job has been working with people like you - here at home. I am excited to announce that I will be seeking another term to serve as your representative in Montpelier. You may have already seen me at the Wardsboro 4th of July Parade, the Londonderry Parade on July 5th, or Jamaica Old Home Day on July 26th. As always, I plan to be at events like these throughout the summer. By all measures, Vermont is facing tough economic times, and the state of our economy will feature prominently in this election cycle. When I speak with folks in our community, I hear a common refrain - health insurance and fuel are unaffordable, property taxes are out of control, and the job market is tight.
These challenges aren't unique to our district; it's a struggle that is shared across Vermont, and to a large extent, our nation. The people I speak to in this district want our state legislature to confront the real challenges that affect our everyday lives. We need strong leaders who have the capacity and initiative to buckle-down and solve real problems - like the escalating cost of fuel, the healthcare cost shift, our economic woes, and our broken education funding system.
Over the next several months, I will work hard to prove to you that I am the right person to tackle these issues.
Although an election can be a humbling experience, I look forward to each and every one with the same enthusiasm that I had when I first ran for public office. Elections are the ultimate display of democracy in action, and afford our citizens an important opportunity to hold our elected officials accountable. I, for one, welcome that opportunity.
I hope that I have served you well. But, as always, I take no vote for granted. I look forward to meeting every constituent in the district over this summer, so I hope to see you soon. In the meantime, please don't hesitate to contact me with any questions, suggestions, or concerns.
